Keeps you guessing!

Refuge on Crescent Hill
by Melanie Dobson
Kregel Publications

A great story with lots of suspense and emotion.

I would highly recommend this book. The author is very thorough and descriptive. It read like a movie. You feel very emotionally attached to the characters and would like to read more about them.

There is a great storyline without bad language or immoral scenes. The book keeps you guessing. I would like to read more books by this author.

I was given a review copy from the publisher, but a positive review was not required.

Beautiful Story

The Three Trees
by Elena Pasquali
Illustrated by Sophie Windham

A delightful what if story about three trees, who had big dreams, thought that they could never come true, then realized them beyond their hopes.

It is called a traditional folktale, the part about the trees is imagined, the life of Jesus is fact. He is the Son of God, the Saviour of the world.

One thing about this book that I enjoy is the way that it can be applied to our lives. Whatever we've been through, whoever we are, God can use us for His purpose when we put our lives in His hands, and only eternity will tell us the good we can accomplish in His will.

The book is colorfully illustrated with very few pages, a great discussion starter.

I received this book from the publisher to review, but a positive review was not required.

Being Thankful!

Thank You, God, For  Blessing Me!
by Max Lucado

A very colorful board book with delightful illustrations that reminds us that God has blessed us in so many ways!  It further shows us our responsibility to live a life that pleases God, so we can show Him our appreciation of His many blessings.

I feel that it is so important to instill thankfulness in children.  So many times in life we forget to stop and thank God for the beautiful world that He prepared for us, family, friends, the daily provisions, and His greatest gift the plan of salvation!

Brighter Days for Katie Ann!

The Wonder of Your Love
by Beth Wiseman

This book has many twists and turns, rather unpredictable.  I haven't read many books by Mrs. Wiseman, I know the story would mean more to you if you had read all of her other books first, but it stands on it's own as a good read.

The main character, Katie Ann, has faced hardships, embarrassment and disappointment, and is due for some better circumstances.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series, I feel well acquainted with these folks and am interested in following their lives.

God made us special!

Hermie,  A Common Caterpillar
By Max Lucado

We need to realize we are blessed, even though we may not be able to slam dunk a basketball, cook a delicious meal, deliver a powerful sermon, paint a beautiful painting, etc., God has a purpose and plan for each of our lives, and when we find that purpose, and are doing God's will, we can be happy and content knowing that God can work through us.  We need to pray and ask God to use us for His purpose.

This book shows children that we are all special to God. This edition is a level two reader with easy print for children learning to read with colorful illustrations.

Quality Time!

100 Devotions, 100 Bible Songs
By Stephen Elkins

It is important to teach children the importance of personal and family devotions from a young age.

God is so important in our lives and we can learn so much about Him through Bible study.

The things I like about this book:
The music included -- there are 100 songs presented with catchy tunes!
The devotions teach so many valuable life lessons!
The colorful illustrations!
The coordinating devotions with the songs!

The one thing I would like different would be King James Version memory verses. There are a few, but I really feel that it is actually easier to understand, and it has stood the test of time as the Bible for English speaking people.

This is such an amazing book to me! So many songs and devotions!
I feel it is so important that parents spend time with their children and read to them.

Filled with God's Love!

Smack Dab in the Middle of God's Love
By: Brennan Manning

I enjoyed reading this book! The illustrations are so colorful, and the words themselves draw mental pictures in my mind!

It is so wonderful that when we accept God's love for us, he fills us like honey in a soppapilla! What a difference salvation makes in our lives.

God sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross, to bear our penalty of death -- the result of our sin against God.  Oh, what a Saviour, what love for us!

I am so glad to be smack dab in the middle of God's love!

Enjoyable!

Sweet Sanctuary
by Sheila Walsh and Cindy Martinusen-Coloma

I enjoyed reading this story! What a difference the truth makes!
Sometimes we have to be shaken out of our comfort zone so we can be blessed!
I highly recommend this book!  We should remember that children remember how we treat them, and what we do and say not only influence them now,  but after they grow up these things affect how they feel about and treat us.

I would be interested in reading more books by these authors!

I Believe in Creation!

It Couldn't Just Happen
Knowing the Truth about God's Awesome Creation
by Lawrence O. Richards

I Believe in a literal 6 day creation. God is not limited by time or space and he spoke the world into existence! This book is a great science book that tells how special we are as God's own creation, not just a happenstance.  I really like the neat illustrations and the explanations about how we function by God's design and how different creations need each other to exist.

One thing I would change is using the King James Version of the Bible for references.  It would have meant more to me to use familiar passages that I understand and love.

This book was well researched and I am excited to have a source of information that doesn't base the "facts" on a theory-- evolution. I am frustrated at the nature programs offered that just assume evolution as fact.

Wake up and think for yourself, don't listen to people refer to billions of years as if they were there. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1

Life Lessons

Billy Graham In Quotes
By Franklin Graham

A well written book presenting quotes of Dr. Graham on a wide variety of topics and issues. I feel if everyone would study this book that we would have a much better society.
I appreciate Dr. Graham's ministry and that he is still involved in ministry at his age and with his health issues. I feel that the book would have been better with KJV references, I am saddened that we seem to have drifted away from using this text that has lasted for 400 years.

I appreciate all the effort that it took to compile and document the quotes from his sermons and books. Much wisdom can be gained through the study of this book!

Courage!

Reluctant Queen
by Joan Wolf

My favorite part of this book is the fact that the author showed that Esther's life fulfilled the purpose God had for her, and that God can use us too!

I rarely read fiction based on Bible stories because I want to keep my facts straight.  The author didn't base this story just on the facts--the Bible, but used secular history and her own imagination.  The story was very compelling and the characters were very believable. You felt the anxiety and betrayal in the climax.  I would recommend that all who read this would do as I have done and later read the Biblical account, so you can readjust the facts in your mind.

"For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"Esther 4:14

I hope that I can be like Esther and fulfill the purpose God has for me!

Hard Times!

Spring for Susannah
by Catherine Richmond

A very good book set in the pioneer era about a city girl becoming a farm wife.  I was caught by the story and pulled for the characters through hard times and was not ready for the story to end.  One thing I didn't care about was a discussion with a doctor on birth control.  I felt the story could have been better without such crude discussion.
Overall the characters were described so well you felt like you knew them.  I would be interested in reading more books by this author. I would like to visit this pioneer community, but only for a few hours, I am too spoiled to modern  conveniences.

Reflections

The Waiting Place
By Eileen Button

When I saw this title I thought it might help me with my patience (or lack thereof), and maybe God can use it to help me in that way, but I found the book brought back many memories to my mind and I have remembered things from my life as I have read this book.

The author has an intriguing writing style that pulls you into her story. I didn't like the bywords, but I enjoyed the candid stories the author tells from her life experiences. It is a book that makes you reflect on how your attitude and moods affect others. Hopefully, I will be a better person for reading this book.

Informative!

Be the People: A Call to Reclaim America's Faith and Promise
By Carol M. Swain Ph.D.

A very courageous and knowledgeable book on American history, today's issues and political agendas, and ideas on improving our future.
I am very appreciative of Dr. Swain's knowledge and ideas.  I am proud to be an American and am interested in seeing a return to our traditional values and ideals.  I would like to thank the author for including our foundational documents in the appendix: The Ten Commandments, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution of the United States of America.

Common Sense!

Money Secrets of the Amish: Finding True Abundance in Simplicity, Sharing, and Saving
Author Lorilee Cracker
Most Americans tend to spend everything we make on payments for things that we will replace before they are paid off. We need to step back and assess what we are doing to ourselves, as well as future generations. The only inheritance we provide is an allusion because money is still owed on what we hand down.
This book gives practical advice on how to live within our means, and help others as well. Another thing that amazes me about our economy is that we have such a hard time grasping the concept that few are not able to support many. In Amish families everyone has their own chores and responsibilities. They take care of their elderly relatives, and respect the knowledge that they have to share.

Rejoice!

Rejoice
Women of Faith Worship Team CD

I am excited about this new CD. The best part is the fact that the songs magnify and praise our Blessed Lord. One of my favorite hymns is Great Is Thy Faithfulness, I am glad it was included on this CD.

I am a fan of Acoustic Gospel Music so I find the background music a bit overpowering and distracting, but I appreciate the lyrics. I think this will be some good get up and get going morning music for me!

Our God is so worthy of praise!!
